The engagement ring is the symbol for a couple that has made a commitment to marry each other. When a man is about to propose to a woman more than likely an engagement ring will be involved. There are two ways in which you can go about getting an engagement ring. The first one is to go to a jewellery store and look at the different rings they have available. The second one and the most commonly used now is to get the right size ring and look online for the one that you want to give her. Some men will go to a jewellery store with their future fiancé but if you plan to surprise, you have to do all the planning yourself. If your girlfriend wears rings at the moment, make sure to get one of those so that you can get the right size, but if a mistake is made, ring sizes can be fixed later.

The matching of the wedding band and the engagement ring is important. Fortunately, a lot of jewellers will sell both the wedding band and engagement ring together. Making the purchase this way will ensure that they both go great with each other. As far as the rock and the engagement ring, some people like to purchase them separately but buying the ring already whole makes more sense as you will be able to see the ring in its full glory.

There are many different prices for engagement rings and the amount that you spend is completely up to you. While some rings can go as cheap as a couple of hundred dollars, others can end up costing thousands. The one thing that you have to make sure of is that whichever ring you choose, that it is beautiful. If you have the money to pay for it right away, then you can choose to do so. If not, there is financing available for engagement rings. Make sure that you create a budget and that you stick to it.

The Four Cs Of Diamond Engagement Rings

When looking for the right diamond there are many things you’ll need to consider. One of the first is the quality and you should think about this over the price. Here are a few clues to how good a diamond is.

Colour

There are four Cs when it comes to diamond rings so if you are in the market for a diamond engagement ring, the first C would be colour. When it comes to diamonds, you want something that is colourless. Colourless diamonds are in fact the ones that have the most value. You will know what the grading of the diamond ring is by looking at what the grade that it has been given actually is. The most colourless diamonds and therefore the most valuable are graded D. The grades go anywhere from D to Z. Z would be a light yellow diamond.

Cut

The second C that you should be looking for in a diamond engagement ring is the cut. The cut of a diamond is not the actual shape of the diamond; instead it is the technique which was used to get the stone to its current shape. The cut is not something that is easy to see for anyone so you will need a GIA certificate with your diamond. An AGS certificate will also help you verify the quality in the diamond. The grading that you are looking for is either excellent or ideal.

Clarity

The clarity is also very important when it comes to diamonds and it is the third C that you will be looking at. The clarity helps determine the value of the diamond by a lot. In order to know the clarity, standards that are used include VVS1, VVS2, IF and others. What this means is how many flaws there are in the diamond. Some of the flaws can be small while other ones a little bit larger. Air bubbles, scratches and additional minerals in the diamond will make a difference in the standards received for the diamond you purchased.

Carat

Carat is the fourth C that we will be discussing and it is the actual size of the diamond. A lot of people will pay less attention to the carat because after all most will see the purity of a diamond as the symbol for the commitment but if you want to flaunt the larger stones, then carats will be very important for you. Choose the carat carefully and make sure that the size of the stone goes with the style of the person receiving it. The four Cs will determine the value of the engagement ring that you are purchasing.
